Danette’s daughter is constantly learning lessons of faith through Adventures in Odyssey
Adventures in Odyssey is always on in Danette’s home. Her daughter is obsessed, and listens while doing art projects, in the car, around the house – whatever she’s doing, she’s often listening to her friends from the town of Odyssey as they learn lessons about life and faith.
It all started when her daughter was about 5 years old and they were going on a road trip. They picked up an album from a local Christian bookstore and listened non-stop. “It was fabulous,” Danette remembers. “It was so, so well done that it then became a gift tradition. For any birthday or any possible time of celebration, there was a gift from Focus on the Family.”
As her daughter got older, they’d look online for different episodes, which is when they discovered the Adventures in Odyssey Club. As a single mom, Danette had to economize, but a family friend has gifted it to her daughter for the last two years.
“My sister loves stories too,” she explains. “She is single and was working from home during the pandemic, so she heard the stories too . . . Anyone who appreciates stories, even though they're meant for children, can appreciate the morals and the depth of those stories; they’re very layered.”
Because of the support of friends like you, Danette knows seeds are being planted in her daughter’s life now that can sustain her later in life. Even today, Danette remembers the biblical truths found in the hymns she heard growing up, and she trusts the same will be true for her daughter and Adventures in Odyssey:
“If my daughter remembers these stories, about their ethics, or something of the principles they teach, because they are all biblically based, she will be alright.”
As our world continues to pull away from biblical truth, many parents – like Danette – are asking questions like, “How do we prepare our kids for a post-God world? How do we keep them prepared for their teen years, and for being the persecuted church?” That’s why she loves Adventures in Odyssey – it offers real-life stories that don’t speak down to children, showing them how to navigate the world around them while holding on to their faith.
Danette adds that, as a single parent, she feels the added stress of all that is required of her:
“Parenting is a struggle, period. Accomplishing tasks, healthy diets, teaching biblical principles, disciplining, and having fun and being engaged – it’s a time struggle. Doing it on your own is twice as hard. The added reinforcement that Adventures in Odyssey provides is essential to my parenting. Having that other voice that is biblically solid, entertaining and engaging, that affirms the teaching I am trying to convey, is so much more important to me as a single parent. And, ultimately, it is so much more eternally important to her.”
Because of the support of generous donors, Adventures in Odyssey is readily available for parents just like Danette. “I am eternally grateful for content that points to rightness, truth and biblical principles for my daughter, and so many children,” she says.
