Free booklet download: Understanding Your Family of Origin
Whether we realize it or not, the family we grew up in has an undeniable impact on our lives, and it can be difficult to know how to create a family that thrives when we’re repeating unhealthy patterns of the past. That’s why I’m excited to tell you about a brand new free downloadable booklet from Focus on the Family Canada, called Understanding Your Family of Origin.
This free PDF booklet will equip you with the tools to help you explore your own family of origin.
No family is perfect – mine included!
When I married Susan, we quickly realized we had come from two very different families. I grew up in a home where fighting and arguing were commonplace, and Susan did not. By God’s grace, we were able to go to a Christian counsellor to sort out how our individual families of origin were causing such conflict in our marriage, and I was able to make a choice to follow my Heavenly Father’s example instead of my own father’s.
This is why Focus on the Family Canada exists. We want to equip families with practical advice grounded in biblical truth – just like this free booklet – so they can thrive as God intended.
In this free downloadable booklet, you’ll find advice to help you begin to unpack how your family of origin has affected you, how you can make positive changes in your marriage and parenting, and how you can find freedom from unhealthy patterns like codependency and addiction.

Our team of in-house counsellors are ready to talk with you over the phone about your family of origin or anything else you may be walking through right now. If you need more help, we can also refer you to a counsellor in your area who can continue to come alongside you.
