Major gifts

Each year, in addition to our many foundational activities, we strive to maximize our service to families through a number of priority projects – be they expansions of our existing programs or new initiatives that respond to a recognized need.

These priority projects are funded specifically through major gifts from key partnerships with individuals, businesses and foundations.

We define major gifts as donations of $5,000 or more. These gifts ensure the financial security of these special projects to see lives changed and families thrive.

We have a team that is committed to assisting donors who are interested in making major gifts. They are dedicated to the work of Focus on the Family Canada, are knowledgeable about each project and are available to answer all of your questions so you have the information you need to make an informed decision about which project to support.

When you make a gift of $5,000 or more, you become part of a distinguished group of partners who are passionate about seeing families strengthened, biblical values promoted and lives transformed through the power of Christ.

Here are our current priority projects:

Kerith Waters Loan Repayment

Kerith Waters retreat centre in Ontario is the newest Focus on the Family Canada property and has proven to be an ideal location for hosting our counselling and retreat programs for couples and ministry leaders. Located within a three-hour radius of nine million people, it eliminates the obstacle of distance which is often a deciding factor for potential attendees and gives a closer-to-home option for those in Eastern and Atlantic Canada.

In March 2023, Focus on the Family Canada intentionally structured the repayment of the loan to purchase this property in order to avoid impacting our general funds, allowing our various ministry programs to run uninterrupted. We have determined that this may not be sustainable long-term and have therefore set a goal of repaying the remaining purchase loan by the end of our 2026 fiscal year.

By paying off the remainder of this loan, we will be in a stronger position to enhance our existing programs and help even more families and ministry leaders through these proven programs.

“We received life-changing and marriage-changing teaching and therapy this past week . . . [and] we walk out of here today feeling liberated to care for ourselves well and show up for each other. . . . Thank you all for your ministry here at Kerith Waters with Focus on the Family. [You are] truly, helping families thrive.”

Will you help us ensure we can continue to uphold all our ministry efforts unhindered while expanding our reach to even more families in Canada?

Kerith Retreats Registration Assistance Fund

Kerith Retreats provides a specialized program for clergy and ministry leaders, including seven days of personalized teaching for ministry leaders in a small group setting. Whether the guests are married or single, these ministry retreats give them a chance to enjoy a restful setting conducive to spiritual restoration and deepened intimacy with Christ.

Working in ministry has many blessings, but an abundance of financial resources is typically not one of them. Often those who need help the most are the ones who can’t afford it. The cost of a Kerith Retreat is $1,800 for ministry couples and $1,200 for singles.

The Kerith Registration Assistance Fund is intended to help those who are committed to attend a retreat but could benefit from some financial assistance.

“The kindness and mercy of the Lord was so evident in our week here [at Kerith Retreats]. How refreshing to be cared for in such a beautiful location. . . . The combination of quiet rest with meaningful sessions, and interacting with other ministry leaders over supper was just what we needed.”

Will you sponsor ministry leaders who cannot afford to attend on their own? Your gift will ensure couples and singles in clergy – whether they’re pastors, missionaries or parachurch leaders – can experience the rest and renewal of a Kerith Retreat.

Funds needed in 2025: $30,000

Hope Restored Registration Assistance Fund

At Hope Restored, couples in crisis receive an all-inclusive marriage counselling experience led by two professional counsellors either for one couple or a group format with 4-5 couples, 20-32 hours of counselling over 3-5 days, insight and learning through extended therapy sessions, and 3-5 nights of lodging and meals in a private, luxurious retreat centre.

We recognize the cost may be difficult for some, but we truly consider this an investment in their marriage and family. We do encourage couples to see what they can afford and what help they may be able to obtain through their local church, family, friends or even workplace. However, if finances remain an issue, we do not want that to be a barrier to getting necessary help. That’s why we have this special assistance fund to help subsidize the costs for couples in need.

The Hope Restored Registration Assistance Fund offers support to those wishing to attend either the 4-day Group Intensive (the total cost of which is $4,250) or the 3-day Private Intensive (the total cost of which is $5,250). The amount of funding assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis.

“I arrived [at Hope Restored] knowing we both had a lot of things to work on, praying for a miracle. I quickly realized that God was going to be doing a lot of work on myself and my heart. . . . I was skeptical of the group format but came to love it at the end. God truly does miracles here.”

Will you sponsor a couple to attend this life-changing program? Your support makes it possible for those who cannot afford Hope Restored to get personalized help that can turn their lives and marriage around.

Focus Famille Ministry Expansion

French-speaking families, mainly from Quebec and France, but also in provinces like Ontario and New Brunswick, regularly reach out to Focus Famille for prayer, advice, and relevant resources as they navigate painful challenges. With 22 per cent of Canadians saying French is their mother tongue and only 6 per cent of the population in Quebec professing to be evangelical Christians, there is a high demand for grace-filled content that not only gives practical advice but also points people to the unchanging hope of Christ.

Whether through our free French magazine created entirely in-house, our website, monthly e-newsletter or social media platforms, more and more people are turning to Focus Famille as the place to go for concrete, faith-building resources to help the families around them thrive. The free Focus Famille magazine is also available online for the francophone community outside of Canada as there is regular demand from churches and French speakers around the world, especially from Europe and Africa, for this kind of content.

“Thank you so much for your prayers, I am grateful to God for your support, even though we do not know each other personally! God hears prayers! Thank you also for the information, where to reach counsellors. May God bless your [French] ministry to people in a hurting world. You have my gratitude.”

Will you help us equip more francophone families with biblically based resources? Your generosity will reach francophone families with guidance and teaching according to God’s design for life, marriage and family.

Parenting Initiative

Marriage and parenting are two major pillars of the work we do at Focus on the Family Canada, but for the latter, we have perceived a gap in our ministry offering. Families today need help with a wide range of issues and every day we hear from parents and grandparents who are struggling with mental health in children, LGBTQI+ concerns, parenting adult children, pornography addiction, drug and alcohol use, and more.

These are complex issues that require psychologically sound and biblically based answers. Parents need help raising children when faith and truth are being challenged at every turn in our culture. Churches, too, need wisdom for how to help the families in their communities walk through challenging situations. The goal is to complete thorough research into the needs and concerns of today’s parents and grandparents, create original Canadian content that provides practical, biblically based advice for raising children, tweens and teens, and distribute this content through seminars, videos, workbooks, resources, online articles, podcasts and more.

“Thank you so much for being so thoughtful and helping make parents' lives so much easier with these free PDFs. We are grateful for you, the team, and appreciate all the hard working and faithful people who make this possible.”

Will you join us in equipping parents with much-needed support?

General Fund

While our priority projects reflect the prayerful consideration of the president and leadership team, our general fund supports the ongoing ministry efforts of Focus on the Family Canada. Through the generous support of a wide range of donors across Canada, we continue to fund the following areas of ministry:

  • Hope Restored marriage intensives
  • Kerith Ministry Leader Retreats
  • Operating three retreat centres (Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario)
  • Free confidential phone counselling for constituents
  • Clergy Care Network with free confidential counselling support for clergy and their families
  • Journey to Us marriage conferences and retreats
  • Free resources supporting marriage, family and parenting (Focus on the Family broadcast, bimonthly magazine, video series, PDF booklets on life challenges and healthy relationships, devotionals, Plugged In media reviews, faith and culture articles, and more)
  • Promotion and distribution of books, audio downloads and other resources, including Adventures in Odyssey.

By providing a variety of resources grounded in God’s unchanging Word, we are ensuring every family – no matter what they’re walking through – can find the support they need to not just survive but thrive.

“You have helped my family tremendously. Sometimes in the business of family life and ministry it can feel very lonely. Focus on the Family has given us so many much-needed resources for us as parents, pastors, and resources for our children.”

Will you give to the general fund to enable us to continue providing quality ministry and resources to help all families thrive?
